Both Houses of Parliament adjourned till 2:00 PM amid opposition’s uproar on electoral roll revision

Both the Houses of the Parliament have been adjourned till 2:00 PM following the opposition ruckus over various issues including Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. When the Lok Sabha assembled at 12 noon after the first adjournment, the opposition party members again trooped into the well and pressed for their demand. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju appealed to the opposition MPs not to disrupt the House proceedings. He said, government is ready to discuss any issue in the House. Mr Rijiju said, the discussions should be held in a peaceful and disciplined manner.  He said there are other issues also which require attention but the opposition is adamant on a single issue. The Minister said, there is always victory and loss in elections, but taking out the anger over defeat in Parliament is not right.
 
As the opposition continued its sloganeering, the presiding officer adjourned the Lower House till 2:00 PM. Earlier, when the Lok Sabha assembled at 11 AM, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla welcomed a parliamentary delegation from Georgia led by President of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili. Mr Birla said, the visit of the parliamentary delegation to India is a symbol of the depth of relations between the two countries. Mr Birla said, this visit will further strengthen bilateral cooperation and ties between the two nations.
 
 
When the Lok Sabha took up Question Hour the opposition members started sloganeering on various issues including Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Amid the ruckus, the Ministers replied to various questions raised by the members. However, the opposition members from Congress, TMC, DMK, SP and others came to the well, raising slogans demanding discussion on SIR and other issues. The Lok Sabha Speaker tried to run the House, but the opposition members were on their feet. Mr Birla urged members to go back to their seats and allow the House the function. He said, Question Hour is important and every member should participate in it. Mr Birla said, the conduct of some of the members in the House as well as outside is not appropriate. Despite the appeal, the opposition members continued with their protest following which, the Speaker adjourned the House till 12:00 noon.
 
 
The Rajya Sabha also adjourned till 2:00 PM over the opposition’s uproar on various issues including Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. When the House assembled at 11:00 AM, Chairman C P Radhakrishnan welcomed the Parliamentary Delegation of Georgia to India. He said, the visit will strengthen the bilateral relation between India and Georgia.  
When the Upper House took the Zero Hour, the opposition members started sloganeering demanding discussion over SIR and other issues. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the government has repeatedly requested the opposition for smooth functioning and discussion in the House. He said, government will engage with the opposition over their issues. Mr Rijiju said, we have to engage in dialogue and discussion. Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge said, SIR is an important matter and demanded immediate discussion on it. As the opposition continued their protest, the Upper House was adjourned till 2:00 PM.
