Proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament were disrupted for the third consecutive day as the opposition continued with their protest. The opposition parties were demanding discussion over Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar and other issues.
The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha today witnessed two adjournments before being finally adjourned for the day. As the Lok Sabha assembled after the second adjournment at 2 PM, opposition parties including Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party and others trooped into the well, raising slogans pressing their demands. The Presiding Officer urged the protesting members to allow the House to function citing that an important bill is listed today regarding Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024. He said the House already lost precious time in the last two days of the session and the opposition must allow the bill to be discussed. As the pandemonium continued, the Chair adjourned the House for the day.
Earlier, when the Lok Sabha met after the first adjournment at 12 noon, the opposition members continued with their sloganeering demanding discussion on Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar and other issues. They also demanded withdrawal of SIR in Bihar. Amid the noisy scene, Youth Affairs and Sport Minister Mansukh Mandaviya introduced the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 and The National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The Presiding Officer tried to conduct the Zero Hour but the opposition members kept raising slogans. The Presiding Officer said, the government is ready to discuss the issues raised by the opposition but they are not allowing the House to function. Amid din, the Chair adjourned the House till 2 PM. In the morning, when the House met at 11 AM, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla took up the Question Hour but the opposition members started sloganeering demanding discussion on various issues. Mr Birla appealed to the opposition to allow Question Hour saying that people of the country are watching their conduct. He expressed concern over continued disruption and displaying placards inside the House by the opposition members. Amid the noisy scene, Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw replied to a question related to Railway Projects in Bihar. The Opposition members continued with their protest due to which the Speaker adjourned the House till 12 Noon.
Similar scenes were witnessed in the Rajya Sabha. After the second adjournment, when the House assembled at 2 PM, the opposition parties created ruckus in the House and demanded discussion on Special Intensive Revision in Bihar. Amid noisy scenes, Port, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sabananda Sonowal moved the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, 2025 for consideration and passing, but due to the Opposition parties’ ruckus, the discussion could not take place. Opposition parties including Congress, DMK, TMC and others were on their feet raising slogans in support of their demands. As the pandemonium continued, the Chair adjourned the House for the day. Earlier, when the Upper House assembled after the first adjournment at 12 Noon, the Chair tried to run the Question Hour but the opposition members kept pressing for their demands. The Chair requested the protesting members to allow Question Hour but in vain. Amidst din, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 PM. In the morning, when the House met at 11 AM, the opposition members raised slogans demanding discussion on Special Intensive Revision of electoral roll in Bihar and other issues. Deputy Chairman Harivansh disallowed the adjournment notices moved by the opposition members. The Deputy Chairman appealed to the opposition members to allow Zero Hour so that the members can raise their issues but the opposition continued with their protest leading to adjournment of the House till 12 Noon.
