Senior BJP leader Amit Shah today said the BJP has stopped the inflow of illegal immigrants into Assam and will work to deport them over the next five years. He was addressing an election rally at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district this afternoon.
Highlighting the achievements of the BJP government in the State, Mr. Shah said, over the past ten years, Assam has largely become free from insurgency, which brought peace and new opportunities to the region. He accused the Congress of failing to maintain law and order during its tenure, resulting in the loss of the lives of hundreds of youths.
Referring to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr. Shah said that several peace accords were signed, restoring stability in the region. Mr Shah also highlighted various development and welfare initiatives implemented during the BJP’s tenure in Assam.
The BJP has fielded senior leader and sitting MLA Ashok Singhal from the constituency.
