BJP-led ruling Mahayuti alliance inches towards massive win in Maharashtra local body polls

In Maharashtra, while the final figures of the results of the civic elections have not been declared by the Election Commission, early trends show the ruling Mahayuti leading in 214 local bodies. Counting for the 285 out of 288 municipal councils and nagar panchayats began Sunday morning.

The BJP has secured three seats unopposed, with members and presidents of the Dondaicha Municipal Council (Dhule) and Angar Nagar Panchayat (Solapur) elected without contest, while the poll for the Jammer municipal president also saw no opposition.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis thanked the people of Maharashtra for their majority support to the BJP and the Mahayuti. Speaking to media persons in Nagpur, Mr. Fadnavis assured that his government would carry out development work befitting the trust that people have shown. He stated that they had sought votes in this election solely on the issue of development.

Union Minister and senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari congratulated Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Ravindra Chavan, and the party workers for winning the majority of seats in the polls. In a social media post, he said that the voters have placed their trust in the BJP’s development-oriented work style.
