BJP Leader Suvendu Adhikari writes to EC, dismissing West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s false claim about SIR drive in state

BJP Leader and leader of Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, has written a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, dismissing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s false claim about the Special Intensive Revision, SIR exercise and her request to halt it.

In his letter, Mr Adhikari said, the SIR drive is throwing the spotlight on the TMC’s dirty secrets, fake voters and illegal infiltrators, which the TMC has allegedly protected for years to rig the elections. He said, it is crystal clear that Mamata Banerjee is panicking because her dream to win the election in 2026 will not be fulfilled due to the SIR exercise.

The BJP leader described Mamta Banerjee’s allegations as a desperate attempt to sabotage a vital and timely democratic exercise. Mr Adhikari further accused the Mamata Banerjee government’s administration of attempting to disrupt the exercise.

The BJP leader emphasised that the SIR has been implemented after extensive nationwide consultations with comprehensive training modules disseminated to over 50 thousand Booth Level Officers and Electoral Registration Officers in West Bengal alone. He said, this exercise is not an assault on the Constitution but its truest vindication, purging the shadows that have eclipsed the country’s polls for too long.
