BJP has strongly criticised the West Bengal government’s claim of a resounding victory for the voters of the state before the Supreme Court today on the SIR process. Mocking the statement, opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari told reporters that he has a doubt whether the state government’s position would remain the same even after the final list is published on the 28th. He claimed that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee must take responsibility for the names that will be excluded from that list. He also remarked that it is a shame for the state to bring in judges from outside the state.
Raising questions about the administrative role in several places, including Nadia district, he demanded a central forensic investigation and central intervention. The opposition leader also called for the transfer of the DEO of Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, and East Burdwan. According to him, 225 EROs were appointed in violation of commission rules, and they must be replaced before the nomination process begins.
On Monday, Suvendu also questioned the presence of the former chief secretary at the High Court meeting. He said he had informed the Chief Electoral Officer about the matter and that the attention of the Central Election Commission would be drawn.
