Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the first phase of the Patna Metro Rail Service today. The first phase of the approximately 3.6-kilometre-long elevated metro corridor has been named the Priority Corridor. In this phase, metro services will operate from the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) to Bhootnath Station. After a wait of six years, the first phase of the Patna Metro Rail Service is finally being inaugurated. The construction work for the metro rail project was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2019. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will also travel on the route from the New Pataliputra Bus Terminal (ISBT) to Bhootnath Station. In addition, he will lay the foundation stone for the underground section of Corridor One.
Since the signalling system has not yet been completed, initially the metro service will be operated between three stations using walkie-talkies. The metro rail services will be available from 8 am to 10 pm on this route.
The Urban Development and Housing Department and the Patna Metro Rail Corporation have completed all preparations.
The Chief Minister will first inaugurate the metro depot, followed by the formal launch of the metro train service.
Metro rides for passengers will begin from tomorrow. The state paramilitary police, Bihar State Auxiliary Police (B-SAP) has been entrusted with the metro’s security. Each train, consisting of three coaches, can accommodate around 900 passengers per trip. On the priority corridor red line, passengers will have to pay 15 rupees for a short journey between two stations, and a maximum fare of 30 rupees for travelling across all stations. The metro coaches have been designed attractively with Madhubani paintings featuring illustrations of Bihar’s historical landmarks such as Golghar, Mahabodhi Temple, Buddha Smriti Park, and Nalanda Mahavihara.
