Biennial Elections to 9 Maharashtra Legislative Council Seats on May 12

The Election Commission today announced biennial elections to nine seats of the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC), to take place on 12th May.

According to the schedule, the notification will be issued on 23rd of this month, with 30th as the last date for filing of nominations. Scrutiny will take place on 2nd May, and candidates can withdraw their nomination till 4th May.

Polling, if required, will be held between 9 am and 4 pm on 12th May, followed by counting of votes at 5 pm the same evening.
The entire election process will be completed by 13th May.

The elections will be conducted by members of the 288-member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly to fill seats of members retiring in May 2026.

A total of nine members of the Council are set to retire on 13th May 2026. These include Sanjay Kishanrao Kenekar, Neelam Diwakar Gorhe, Uddhav Thackeray, Sandeep Diwakar Joshi, Dadarao Yadavrao Keche, Amol Ramkrushna Mitkari, Ranjitsinh Vijaysinh Mohite-Patil, Rajesh Dhondiram Rathod and Shashikant Jaywantrao Shinde.
