Bhupender Yadav Announces Birth of Endangered Great Indian Bustard Chick in Kutch After a Decade

Union Minister Bhupender Yadav announced that Gujarat has witnessed the birth of a chick of endangered Great Indian Bustard (GIB) after a decade, in Kutch. In a social media post on Saturday, the Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change said that the milestone was achieved through a novel conservation measure known as the Jumpstart Approach. He added that the effort was planned a year back and coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, along with the State Forest Departments of Rajasthan and Gujarat and the Wildlife Institute of India.  He emphasized that the effort is among one of the many steps to recover the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard populations. The Minister also said that Project GIB was launched in the year 2016 to conserve GIB in its natural habitats, including Gujarat.
