The week-long Bharat-Sri Lanka Sanskrit Mahotsav was inaugurated today at the University of Colombo by High Commissioner of India Santosh Jha, together with Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr Madhura Senevirathna. The festival celebrates Sanskrit as the timeless language of wisdom, harmony, and knowledge.
Jointly organised by the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Education, the Central Sanskrit University, and the India-Sri Lanka Foundation, the event brings together scholars, monks, and students from across both nations.
High Commissioner Jha highlighted Sanskrit’s enduring role in strengthening cultural links between India and Sri Lanka. Minister Dr Senevirathna commended the ongoing collaboration to preserve classical learning within modern education.
The week will include workshops, lectures, and performances underscoring Sanskrit’s vitality as a shared civilisational legacy.
