The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign today completed 11 years. In a social media post, Mr Modi said, daughters are revered as Lakshmi in India.
He said, that it is a matter of great pride that today India’s daughters are creating new records across every field and contributing significantly to the nation’s progress.
Akashvani correspondent reports that as a response to the critical issue of gender imbalance and the declining Child Sex Ratio in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme on 22nd January 2015 in Panipat, Haryana.
The scheme has mobilised government agencies, civil society, media, and the public to address gender discrimination, fostering a cultural shift towards valuing the girl child and ensuring her rights and opportunities. Over the years, the scheme has achieved remarkable success.
The national Sex Ratio at Birth has improved to 930 as compared to 918 in 2014-15.
From safeguarding the birth of a girl child to empowering her through education, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao continues to drive a nationwide movement for dignity, opportunity, and equal rights for girls.
