Domestic indices rise by over half a percent despite flat opening

Benchmark domestic equity indices rose over half a per cent today. The markets had opened on a flat note and remained largely range-bound during intra-day trade. However, both the indices secured remarkable gains during last hour of trade. The Sensex gained 410 points, to close at 80 thousand and 568. Similarly, Nifty climbed 135 points, to settle at 24 thousand 715. The broader market indices at the Bombay Stock Exchange also ended with gains. The Mid-Cap index advanced over 0.6 per cent, and the Small-Cap index added 0.9 per cent. 
In the Sensex pack, 21 out of 30 companies marched upward. Among the top gainers, Tata Steel expanded by 5.9 per cent, Titan rose over 1.7 percent and Mahindra and Mahindra climbed over 1.6 per cent. Among the top laggards, Infosys dropped around 1.2 per cent, NTPC dipped over half a per cent, and Hindustan Unilever decreased half a per cent. 
In Sectoral indices at the BSE, 16 out of 21 sectors logged gains. In the top gainers, Metal outperformed, surging over three per cent, Commodities rose more than one and half per cent, and Healthcare added 1.2 per cent. Among the top laggards, Focused IT dipped 0.7 per cent, IT dropped around 0.6 per cent, and Teck lost over half a per cent. 
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as shares of 2,624 companies advanced, and shares of 1,484 companies declined, while shares of 162 companies remained unchanged.
