Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has installed an Early Warning System (EWS) on the banks of the River Beas to alert people in time of the releasing of excess water to ensure their safety.

 

BBMB Chairman Engineer Manoj Tripathi, while virtually inaugurating the system, said that this will help in alerting people living nearby when the excess water is released from Pong Dam into Beas River during emergency situations. A total of six Early Warning System units have been strategically installed under this project near residential areas.

 

Earlier, whenever water had to be released from Pong Dam during any emergency, BBMB teams and local administration had to go to the nearby villages to inform people through loudspeakers or public address systems. That procedure was time consuming and would lead to increased risk of accidents.
