The Baloch Advocacy and Studies Centre (BASC) has reported a sharp rise in enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings in Balochistan, linking the escalation to Pakistan’s expanding resource exploitation. In its report, “Minerals and Misery: The Human Cost of Pakistan’s Resources Politics in Balochistan,”
BASC recorded 824 disappearances between January and June 2025, surpassing all cases in 2024, with 530 individuals still missing. Students accounted for 42.5 percent of the victims, alongside labourers and drivers. The report attributes the spike to the Mines and Minerals Act, 2025, and the Anti-Terrorism (Balochistan Amendment) Act, 2025, which it says suppress dissent. BASC condemned Pakistan’s mineral deals with U.S. firms and urged international investigations, warning that Baloch lives are being sacrificed for profit.
