Various minority communities in Bangladesh gathered in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka yesterday, demanding immediate government action to stop rising violence, anarchy and discrimination across the country.
The protest rally was organised by the Bangladesh Minority Lawyers Unity Alliance, chaired by its convener, freedom fighter and senior Supreme Court lawyer Dr J.K. Pal, and moderated by alliance member secretary Advocate Suman Kumar Roy.
Senior lawyers, minority leaders and representatives of several organisations attended the demonstration and expressed solidarity.
Speakers urged the Chief Adviser to take urgent steps to restore the rule of law and presented five key demands, including judicial investigations into recent killings, exemplary punishment through speedy trial tribunals, equal representation of minorities in state institutions, deployment of the army to ensure post-election security, and the unconditional release of detainees facing what they termed false cases.
Advocate Suman Kumar Roy warned that continued violence has created fear among minority communities and could force them to consider drastic steps, including election boycotts.
Dr J.K. Pal said the state’s failure to protect citizens’ lives and property was deeply alarming and called on political leaders to act immediately to address the situation.
