Bangladesh: Indian Visa Application Centre suspends operations in Chattogram

The Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Chattogram has suspended its operations until further notice amid heightened security concerns following recent incidents near the Assistant High Commission of India (AHCI) in the port city.

In a brief statement, IVAC said visa services at its Chattogram centre would remain closed from December 21 due to a recent security incident at the Assistant High Commission of India (AHCI) in the port city. The centre said a decision on reopening would be taken after reviewing the prevailing security situation.

The suspension came into effect on Sunday, with officials confirming that the development was linked to security tensions in the area. IVAC operates five centres across Bangladesh-in Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Chattogram and Sylhet. An IVAC official said visa services at the other four centres are continuing as usual.
