At Least 23 Killed, Over 100 Injured in Suspected Suicide Bombings in Nigeria

At least 23 people were killed and more than 100 others injured in suspected suicide bombings that struck the city of Maiduguri in northeastern Nigeria last night. According to residents and emergency services, three explosions occurred at crowded locations across Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. Police described the incident as one of the deadliest attacks in the conflict-affected city in recent years.

In a statement, police said preliminary investigations indicate the attacks were carried out by suspected suicide bombers, though no group has claimed responsibility so far. Authorities added that normalcy has been restored, with security forces intensifying patrols across the city to prevent further incidents.

Borno remains the epicentre of Nigeria’s Islamist insurgency, which has persisted for over 17 years, claiming thousands of lives and displacing around two million people.
