Mr Gogoi is the sitting MLA of this constituency, while Mr Hazarika is the sitting MLA of the delimitation-devoured Amguri constituency. The BJP nominated two-time former MLA of the erstwhile Thowra, Kushal Duwari, for Sibsagar, though the AGP is an NDA partner.

Following the 2023 delimitation exercise, the Sibsagar LAC has undergone changes in its boundaries and population. According to the Election Commission of India, Sibsagar has over 209,000 voters; over 103,000 are male, and over 106,000 are female. There is 1 transgender voter across the 278 polling stations.

During the 2021 election, there were 6 candidates: Akhil Gogoi of Raijor Dal, Surabhi Rajkonwar of BJP, Subhramitra Gogoi of Congress, NCP’s Ajit Hazarika and two independents. Akhil Gogoi won the election with over 46% of the votes.
