Assam Rifles holds wreath-laying ceremony in Manipur for Fallen Hero

A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was organised by Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South) today at Sehlon in Chandel district of Manipur in honour of Nk (late) Tek Bahadur Thapa, Kirti Chakra (Posthumous).

The ceremony paid tribute to the valiant soldier who made the supreme sacrifice during an intense counter in surgency operation in Aizawl, Mizoram, on 25th February 1983. Nk (late) Tek Bahadur Thapa was leading a team in an operation against MNF insurgents responsible for the assassination of a member of the Sateek Village Council. The team successfully cordoned off a jhum hut and apprehended suspects, and during interrogation, one insurgent attempted to flee towards the jungle. In pursuit, Nk (late) Thapa was fired upon and succumbed to bullet injuries.

The wreath-laying ceremony commenced with the Commandant of the unit paying homage, followed by tributes from all ranks. A total of one hundred personnel of the battalion participated, laying wreaths and rendering a Guard of Honour.
