Assam enforces Silence Period ahead of Legislative Assembly Elections

In Assam, the Silence Period for the Legislative Assembly elections came into effect from 5 PM today, marking the end of campaigning across the state. The restriction is imposed 48 hours prior to the close of polling.

During this period, all forms of electioneering, including public meetings, rallies, processions, and canvassing through electronic and social media, are strictly prohibited. The Election Commission of India has also restricted the telecast or broadcast of any opinion polls, exit polls, or similar survey results during the notified period.

Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies will be held on April 9 in a single phase. A total of 722 candidates are in the fray, including 663 men and 59 women.

Authorities have tightened security and administrative measures to ensure free, fair, and peaceful polling across the state.
