Andhra Pradesh is on high alert as Cyclone Montha over the southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to bring heavy to very heavy rains with strong winds on October 27, 28, and 29. The state government has stepped up preparedness to prevent loss of life and property.
State Home and Disaster Management Minister Vangalapudi Anitha reviewed the preparedness with officials in Tadepalli today. She directed all departments to remain alert, shift people from low-lying areas, and ensure the safety of fishermen and coastal residents.
To ensure effective relief and rehabilitation measures, the state government has appointed senior IAS officers as Special Officers for all coastal and adjoining districts. They have been directed to reach their assigned districts immediately, set up Cyclone Control Rooms, coordinate with District Collectors, and monitor rescue and restoration work. The officers will also supervise the assessment of damage and compensation distribution after the cyclone.
In view of the severe weather forecast, several district administrations have declared holidays for schools for the next three days.
