The annual Brahmotsavams of Sri Kapileswara Swamy Temple at Tirupati commenced in a grand and traditional manner today with the Dhwajarohanam ceremony. Amid chanting of Vedic hymns, the holy flag bearing the image of Nandi was hoisted atop the Dhwajasthambham early this morning during the auspicious Makara Lagnam.
The ritual was performed as per the Saiva Agama Shastras in the divine presence of the Panchamurthis. The ceremony was followed by Abhishekam to the Dhwajasthambham, Bali, Naivedyam, Deeparadhana and other traditional upacharas. As per temple tradition, the special Abhishekam to the Dhwajasthambham is performed only once a year on the day of Dhwajarohanam during Brahmotsavams.
Later, Pallaki Utsavam of Sri Somaskanda Murthy and Sri Kamakshi Ammavaru was held, with the deities taken in a grand procession through the streets of Tirupati, blessing devotees.
