Andhra Pradesh: IMD Issues Red Alert For Heavy Rainfall For Several North Coastal Districts

A low-pressure area has formed over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, impacting the north coast of Andhra Pradesh and adjacent areas of south Odisha. The weather system extending up to 9.6 kilometres above mean sea level; inclined towards the southwest, is moving in a west-northwest direction according to the Weather Office in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh.
 
Akashvani’s correspondent reports that it is anticipated that the system will further intensify into a depression in the next 24 hours, with expectations of crossing the south Odisha-north Andhra coasts by the afternoon of tomorrow (19th August 2025).
 
 
 
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Amaravati Centre has issued a Red Alert for several North Coastal Andhra Pradesh districts on Monday, forecasting very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. Prediction is that Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Anakapalle, Kakinada, East Godavari, Dr BR Ambedkar Konaseema, Eluru, West Godavari, NTR, and Guntur districts are likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall.
 
 
 
An orange alert has been issued for Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, Krishna, Palnadu, Bapatla, Prakasam, and Nandyal districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in one or two places.  Yellow alert is issued for SPSR Nellore, Kurnool, Anantapur, YSR Kadapa, Tirupati, and Chittoor districts, where isolated heavy rainfall is likely. Meanwhile, several parts of the State received heavy rainfall on Sunday. Educational institutions in Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitarama Raju district, Parvathipuram Manyam, remained closed today.
