Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu today reviewed the progress of the ‘aladhara-Jalaharati’ water conservation programme through a teleconference with officials.
He directed nodal officers in every mandal to take full responsibility, with strict monitoring also to be ensured in urban areas. The Chief Minister said the water conservation model implemented in Annamayya district should be replicated across the state.
Terming the programme a priority, Mr Naidu instructed officials to repair canals and tanks to prevent flooding during heavy rains and ensure that all water bodies are filled during the monsoon season.
He also asked officials to focus on improving drainage systems in West Godavari district, noting that higher groundwater levels would help reduce electricity consumption and allow savings to be used for other development works.
The Chief Minister further directed that temple tanks, or Pushkarinis, be properly filled and maintained, and called for a clear action plan to ensure water availability.
Emphasising public participation, Mr Naidu said people should be actively involved in the programme and added that its impact must be regularly assessed for long-term benefits.
