The All India Congress party today announced Akash Vishwanath More as its candidate for the upcoming Baramati Assembly by-election in Maharashtra. Akash More is the son of former MLA and Legislative Council member Vijayrao More. He currently serves as a Secretary for the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee.
More will face incumbent deputy CM Sunetra Pawar, the wife of the late Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, who is contesting from the Mahayuti alliance. The seat became vacant following the passing of Ajit Pawar in a plane crash.
Meanwhile, in Rahuri assembly seat in Ahilyanagar district, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially declared Akshay Kardile-the son of the late Shivaji Kardile-as its official candidate for the by- election.
In opposition to him, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance has not yet announced any candidate. The Congress party has declared its intention to contest this by-election, while Prajkta Tanpure and other activists from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) – Sharadchandra Pawar faction have also indicated that they intend to file nomination papers.
Given that the AIMIM party is also set to enter the fray, it is now clearly evident that this election will not be a unanimous (unopposed) contest. The by-election in Rahuri has been necessitated by the passing of the late MLA, Shivaji Kardile. So far, 43 nomination forms have been sold for this election, and four candidates have already filed their papers. The bypoll is scheduled to be held on April 23
