Akashvani DG Rajeev Kumar Jain Visits Kohima, Praises Multilingual Outreach

Director General of Akashvani Rajeev Kumar Jain today lauded Akashvani Kohima for its unique contribution to public broadcasting. Speaking during an interaction with staff on his second day of visit to Nagaland, Mr Jain said the station is among the few in the country that regularly airs news and programmes in multiple dialects. He said, this multilingual outreach makes radio a true people’s medium, helping preserve linguistic diversity and strengthen Akashvani’s connect with communities.
 
Mr Jain also reaffirmed Akashvani’s commitment to public service broadcasting and cultural preservation. Noting that Akashvani’s strength lies in its talent pool of skilled presenters, he highlighted the importance of continuously integrating fresh talent while retaining experienced voices. He encouraged staff to create unique content and explore untold local stories that reflect the region’s rich culture. 
Earlier in the morning, the Director General joined the staff of Akashvani Kohima in the mass singing of Vande Mataram at the Akashvani office premises to commemorate the 150 years of India’s National Song, ‘Vande Mataram’.
 
Later during the day, the DG called on Nagaland’s Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen, at the Chief Secretary’s Office, New Secretariat in Kohima. Accompanied by officials of Akashvani Kohima, Mr Jain apprised the Chief Secretary of the functioning of the Akashvani network and briefed him on the various programmes and news broadcasts of Akashvani Kohima. In the evening, the DG paid a visit to Doordarshan Kendra Kohima, where he inspected the studios and interacted with staff.
