All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi, has achieved a major milestone by conducting the first Robot Assisted Kidney Transplant Surgery.

 

 

Talking to Akashvani News, Dr Virinder Kumar Bansal, Renal Transplant Surgeon, said, AIIMS is the first government institution in the country which has performed such surgery. He said the first surgery of this kind was conducted on the 3rd of last month, and five patients have availed these facilities so far. 

 

 

Talking about the advantage of this technique in comparison to the conventional method, Dr Bansal informed that the recovery rate of patients is faster than open surgery, and the patients can be discharged in a week. He termed this technique safe. He also said that the facility of Robot-Assisted Kidney Transplant Surgery is available at a much minimal cost in AIIMS than private hospital.
