Vice President C P Radhakrishnan has said that All India Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS New Delhi has emerged as the nation’s primary engine of medical innovation and healthcare excellence. Addressing the 51st Convocation Ceremony of AIIMS at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi today, the Vice President said that AIIMS has set the highest standards of patient care and modern medicine while continuing to remain remarkably affordable for the common people.He observed that from pandemic resilience to rural healthcare outreach, the AIIMS brand has become synonymous with trust and integrity across India and the South-East Asian region.The Vice President stated that AIIMS is now establishing global benchmarks in healthcare and medical education.
Referring to the QS World Rankings, the Vice Presidnet noted that AIIMS has climbed 40 places in just two years to reach 105th globally. He expressed confidence that the institute would soon enter the top 100 and one day emerge as the world’s number one institution. Highlighting the expansion of AIIMS institutions across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Vice President said that this expansion has significantly strengthened healthcare delivery in underserved regions. He also appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Health towards establishing more medical and nursing colleges across the country to improve access to medical education. The Vice President also called upon AIIMS graduates to lead healthcare with empathy and integrity.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda said that AIIMS New Delhi is not only an institution but is also a brand name in the healthcare sector. He said, it has positioned itself as one of the pioneer institutions of medical education, patient care and research. He said, in the last eleven years, an amount of two thousand 800 crore rupees has been spent in AIIMS for creating patient care infrastructure. He said, since the Narendra Modi government took over in 2014, the number of AIIMS has increased from seven to 23 in the country. He also informed that the number of medical colleges in the country has increased from around 390 in 2014 to 825 at present. The Minister said that the number of medical seats has also increased to over one lakh 25 thousand, and the government has also decided to add 75 thousand more seats in the next two to three years.
Describing AIIMS as a leader in path-breaking clinical research, a pioneer in surgery, and innovative in technological innovation, the Minister said the institute continues to set benchmarks in healthcare delivery.
During the convocation, AIIMS New Delhi conferred Lifetime Achievement Awards on five distinguished former faculty members in recognition of their exceptional contributions to medical science, education, research, and patient care. Besides, a total of 523 degrees were also awarded to students across undergraduate, postgraduate, super-specialty, doctoral, nursing, and allied health sciences programmes.
