On the occasion of ongoing Seva Pakhwada, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences organised Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan in New Delhi today. Addressing the media, Medical Superintendent Prof Nirupam Madan said that the initiative aims to empower women through these health camps. She said that women can walk in between 9 am to 1 pm and avail the health services including general physical examination, cancer screening, dental health check-up and mental health counselling during the Pakhwada. Prof Madan further mentioned that happiness sessions and street plays will be organised to raise awareness about women’s health.
As part of the Seva Pakhwada, Professor and Head of Department of Neurology, Dr Manjari Tripathi talked about dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. She informed that India is home to approximately 8.8 million elderly living with dementia, yet only about 10 percent are diagnosed correctly. Talking about Alzheimer’s Day which will be observed on 21st of this month, Dr Tripathi focused on this year’s theme Ask About Dementia, Ask About Alzheimer’s. She urged families and caregivers to break the silence about the disease. She suggested taking treatment at an early stage along with improving lifestyle that can reduce dementia risk by 40 percent. She added that community – based support and compassionate supervision is required to reduce the risk of dementia.
