In Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK-led NDA alliance has begun an electioneering campaign from today, as the Party also released the first set of contestants this morning. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palanisamy kicked off the first campaign at Mylapore this evening, along with former Governor and Former State BJP leader Tamizhisai Sounderajan at Mylapore.
The members of the NDA alliance are selecting the contestants and the constituencies, as BJP is contesting in 27 PMK IN 18, AMMK in 11, Tamil Maanila Congress in five, IJK in two, and TMMK in one seat, selecting the constituencies to enter the fray.
On the Secular Democratic front, out of the 234 constituencies, Congress is contesting 28 seats, MDMK IN 4, IUML in two, MMK in two, KMDK in two, CPI and CPM in five, VCK in eight and DMDK in ten seats. DMK is likely to contest 168 seats. The choice of constituencies will be decided soon, even as the nominations will begin on the 30th of March.
Election heat is gathering even as the campaigning has begun in several parts of the State. The parties are adopting age-old methods of canvassing like political rallies, public meetings and door-to-door campaigning. The new age social media tools like memes and shorts are also a new way for campaigning by the war rooms of different parties. The mood for elections has certainly set in, as the Election Commission is also creating awareness for voters to celebrate the festival of democracy.
