In Badminton, Indian shuttlers Aakarshi Kashyap and Unnati Hooda advanced to the pre-quarterfinals of the Thailand Open with impressive victories in Bangkok this morning.
Aakarshi Kashyap secured a hard-fought victory over Japan’s Kaoru Sugiyama in the women’s singles round of 32, winning 21-16, 20-22, 22-20. While Unnati Hooda defeated Thailand’s Thamonwan Nithiittikrai in another intense three-game battle, triumphing 21-14, 18-21, 23-21.
In Men’s Singles, Priyanshu Rajawat and Lakshya Sen faced defeat in the round of 32. World No. 18 Lakshya Sen suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of world No. 34 Nhat Nguyen of Ireland, losing 18-21, 21-9, 17-21. Priyanshu Rajawat lost to Indonesia’s Alwi Farhan 13-21, 21-17, 16-21.
Later today, India’s world No. 10 duo, Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, will play against Malaysia’s Carmen Ting and Ong Xin Yee in women’s doubles this afternoon.
