विश्व की सबसे बड़ी जनसंख्या प्रक्रिया, जनगणना-2027 का पहला चरण आज से शुरू होगा। जनगणना दो चरणों में आयोजित की जाएगी। पहले चरण में मकान सूचीकरण और दूसरे चरण में जनसंख्या की गणना होगी। इसके लिए 1 मार्च, 2027 को संदर्भ तिथि निर्धारित की गई है। पहली बार, जनगणना डिजिटल माध्यम से होगी, जिसमें स्व-गणना का विकल्प भी उपलब्ध होगा। यह स्व-गणना आज से इस महीने की 15 तारीख तक चलेगी। मकान सूचीकरण और आवास जनगणना 16 अप्रैल से शुरू होकर 15 मई तक जारी रहेगी।
मकान सूचीकरण में सभी भवनों और संरचनाओं की सूची तैयार की जाएगी तथा आवासीय स्थिति, उपलब्ध सुविधाओं और परिसंपत्तियों से संबंधित जानकारी जुटाई जाएगी। भवनों की जियो-टैगिंग भी की जाएगी और प्रत्येक संरचना को एक विशिष्ट पहचान संख्या दी जाएगी।

The over six-decade-old Income Tax Act will be replaced by the new Income Tax Act, 2025, effective today. It is designed to simplify the tax system by removing outdated provisions, streamlining complex rules, and making compliance more straightforward for taxpayers.
Meanwhile, all digital payment transactions in the country will be required to comply with two-factor authentication norms from today, as directed by the Reserve Bank of India. The revised FASTag annual pass fee for the financial year 2026-27 will also come into effect from today. Additionally, the revised rules for applying for or updating a Permanent Account Number (PAN) card will take effect from today.

In a significant development in Maharashtra’s anti-Naxal operations, nine Naxalites carrying a combined bounty of 30 lakh rupees surrendered before the Gadchiroli Police yesterday. All nine surrendered cadres were reportedly associated with the Indravati Regional Committee and the National Park Regional Committee operating in Chhattisgarh. The Gadchiroli Police welcomed them into the mainstream by handing over copies of the Constitution of India.
Superintendent of Police, Neelotpal stated that with this surrender, only six armed uniformed Naxal cadres remain active in Gadchiroli district. He appealed to them to lay down arms and join the mainstream, warning that otherwise they would face intensified security operations.

Residents of Bengaluru can self-enumerate their details online for the National Census 2027 from today to 15th of this month across all five city corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority. Officials said the process takes about 15–20 minutes via the census portal, after which users receive a self-enumeration ID. This ID will be used by enumerators visiting homes between April 16 and May 15 for verification. Preparations, including staff training, are underway. The first phase will cover house listing and basic details, with officials noting that self-enumeration will improve speed and transparency. Residents are urged to participate and provide accurate data for better planning of infrastructure and public services.
