The 81st anniversary of the end of the Second World War was solemnly observed today in Puducherry.
Puducherry District Collector A. Kulothungan and Consul General of France in Puducherry and Chennai Etienne Rolland-Piègue laid floral wreaths at the War Memorial on Beach Road on behalf of the Puducherry and France governments.
As part of the commemoration, the national flags of India and France were hoisted, followed by the playing of the national anthems of both countries.
A minute of silence was also observed as a mark of respect for the fallen heroes. The ceremony honoured the memory of soldiers who lost their lives during the Second World War.
