The 70th Mahaparinirvan Diwas of the architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr BR Ambedkar, was observed at Jalandhar today. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr L. Murugan, participated in the event organised by Bharat Gaurav and paid tributes the Dr Ambedkar. He was accompanied by former union minister Vijay Sampla, among others. The Minister said that Dr Ambedkar, despite facing untouchability in school himself, went on to become a barrister and came back to India from London to serve the country and the downtrodden society. Dr Murugan said that besides being the chairman of the constitution draft committee, Dr Ambedkar was an eminent economist who recommended the institution of the Reserve Bank of India. He alleged the previous Congress government did not do much to bring forward his legacy.
