Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil today said that 15 crore rural households across the country have been provided tap water connection under the Jal Jeevan Mission. Addressing the Vision for Sujalam Bharat Summit in New Delhi, Mr Patil reiterated the government’s commitment towards ensuring sustainable water security for every citizen. He said that this summit is the part of a comprehensive national effort for having a scientific and sustainable approach to conserve water.
Mr Patil also informed that 65 percent of the MGNREGA fund will now be allocated towards areas facing acute water scarcity to revive groundwater levels and improve local water availability. Talking exclusively to Akashvani News, Jal Shakti Minister said that with the help of Sujalam vision the dream of making India a developed nation by 2047 will be realized.
Meanwhile Mr Patil launched a book Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari 1.0 at the summit , highlighting the crucial role of community participation in water conservation. He also launched Samridhi MCAD and Ganga Pulse Public Portal. Emphasizing on community-driven initiatives, Mr Patil called for active public participation in India’s water conservation mission.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State, Jal Shakti, V. Somanna, said that the objective of the Summit is to strengthen country’s long-term water and sanitation security by bringing together grassroots insights, State experiences, and institutional perspectives within a unified national framework. Minister of State, for Jal shakti, Raj Bhushan Choudhary was also present at the event.
