In the run-up to the May 26th Civic Bodies elections in Punjab, as many as 10,809 candidates have filed the nomination papers. Saturday was the last day for filing nominations. Elections will be held for 105 civic bodies, including 8 municipal corporations. According to the State Election Commission, 2,154 candidates have filed nominations for the eight municipal corporations, 7,334 for 76 municipal councils and 1,321 for 21 nagar panchayats. Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place today, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations has been fixed for tomorrow, May 19. The results will be declared on May 29. The Commission has made all the arrangements to conduct the elections in a fair, free and peaceful manner.
