Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have extended greetings to citizens on the occasion of Thiruvalluvar Day.
In a social media post, the Vice-President said that Thiruvalluvar taught that love is the foundation of life, that compassion and mercy must guide one’s actions, and that caring for all living beings is the highest virtue. Mr Radhakrishnan said that the philosopher’s guidance remains relevant in every age.
Prime Minister Modi said that the works and ideals of Thiruvalluvar inspire innumerable people. The Prime Minister said that the philosopher believed in a society that is harmonious and compassionate. He added that Thiruvalluvar personifies the best of Tamil culture. Mr Modi also urged countrymen to read Tirukkural, which gives a glimpse of the outstanding intellect of the great Thiruvalluvar.
