US Secretary of State Marco Rubio met Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican and discussed the situation in West Asia, along with issues of mutual interest in the Western Hemisphere. According to US State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the meeting reflected the strong relationship between the United States and the Holy See and their shared commitment to promoting peace and human dignity.

 

The visit assumes significance as it comes amid recent tensions between US President Donald Trump and Pope Leo XIV over the US military operation in Iran. The Pope had expressed his opposition to the US military operation in Iran.
