Union Minister Pralhad Joshi says India records over 6 GW wind energy capacity addition in FY

New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi today said that India has achieved a record addition of over six gigawatts in wind energy capacity during the last financial year. It marks the highest ever installed capacity in a single year.

He said this while addressing an event in New Delhi today. The Minister said India currently ranks fourth globally in wind energy, with a total installed capacity of over 56 gigawatts, while nearly 28 gigawatts are under implementation.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to clean energy, Mr. Joshi expressed confidence that country will achieve 100 gigawatts of wind capacity by 2030 and 156 gigawatts by 2036, contributing significantly to the net-zero target by 2070. He said that wind energy plays a crucial role in meeting peak power demand, with nearly 45 percent of generation occurring during evening and night hours.
