Union Minister Nitin Gadkari says ANPR system to replace traditional toll collection by end of next year

Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the Automatic Number Plate Recognition system will be implemented across the country by the end of next year, to replace the traditional toll collection system. He said the government is implementing it to enhance efficiency and reduce transit times for vehicles on highways.

 

Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha today, Mr Gadkari said, after the implementation of this system, fuel of around one thousand 500 crore rupees will be saved. He also informed that the toll evasion will be eliminated and it will generate the income of six thousand crore for the government.

 

The Minister said, a Multi-Lane Free-Flow tolling system is at an advanced stage, where the vehicle will pay tolls at highways without stopping.
