Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat attends official franchise launch of Indian Golf Premier League

Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat today attended the official franchise launch of the Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) in New Delhi. The event marks a significant step towards positioning India as a global hub for golf tourism and sports-led destination development, in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Addressing the gathering, Mr Shekhawat said that the Indian Golf Premier League is committed to mobilising an investment of two billion US dollars for developing golf tourism infrastructure. He noted that golf tourism attracts high-value international visitors and contributes to long-term economic growth. He added that India has a strong potential to emerge as a leading destination in this segment, with initiatives like IGPL playing a catalytic role. The Minister emphasised that the integration of sports, tourism and hospitality reflects a forward-looking approach to strengthening India’s global tourism footprint.
 
The Indian Golf Premier League aims to promote India as a premium golf tourism destination by developing world-class infrastructure, attracting global investments and integrating tourism with sports. The Ministry of Tourism said that the initiative will expand tourism into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities while creating a sustainable ecosystem combining sporting excellence with infrastructure development and economic growth.
