Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh dedicates UMMID Network to the nation at a function in New Delhi

Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh today dedicated the UMMID Network to the nation at a function in New Delhi.
 
UMMID stands for Unique Methods of Management of Inherited Disorders, which is a national initiative led by the Department of Biotechnology to tackle inherited genetic disorders.
 
The initiative represents India’ first comprehensive national effort to address inherited genetic disorders through an integrated approach encompassing diagnosis, counselling, prevention, training and public health awareness. 
 
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said that the priority of the Narendra Modi government is to make healthcare affordable and accessible to the people of the country.
 
He said, UMMID has brought a new hope for the people and under its framework genetic diagnosis, prenatal screening, genetic counselling and capacity building of clinicians have been incorporated. He said that under this initiative, three lakh individuals have benefited.
