Union Minister Chouhan directs officials to achieve target of 6 crore Lakhpati Didis

Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed officials to work on a war footing to achieve the target of creating six crore Lakhpati Didis under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihoods Mission.

Chairing a review meeting of DAY-NRLM in New Delhi, the Minister sought a detailed briefing on the scheme’s progress and expressed satisfaction over its overall performance. He said that achieving the ambitious target would require linking at least ten crore women to the financial inclusion initiatives of the Ministry of Rural Development. He asked officials to prepare a concrete, time-bound action plan in coordination with state governments.

Mr Chouhan emphasised that financial inclusion is key to women’s empowerment and sustainable rural livelihoods. He stressed the need to strengthen bank linkages, credit access, insurance coverage and financial literacy to make Self-Help Group members economically self-reliant. The Minister also called for optimal utilisation of allocated funds and directed that underperforming states be provided necessary guidance and support to improve implementation.
