UNESCO has announced an emergency assistance package to protect cultural heritage and sustain education in parts of Vietnam which were heavily affected by storms in November last year. The emergency assistance package is valued at around 740,000 dollars. In a statement, UNESCO said that the Typhoons Wipha, Bualoi and Matmo have left a devastating impact, killing hundreds of people damaged hundreds of thousands of homes nationwide.
UNESCO, in cooperation with Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, is conducting technical assessments and implementing emergency protection measures at World Heritage Sites in Hue and Hoi An, as well as at other cultural sites affected by storms and flooding.
