UN Secretary General candidate Michelle Bachelet called for urgent reform of the United Nations Security Council, pushing for greater representation in both permanent and non-permanent categories.
The current UN chief, Antonio Guterres, is ending his term on December 31, and Michelle Bachelet is one of the four candidates to be the next Secretary General of the United Nations.
She said the 15-member Council is outdated, paralysed, and does not reflect contemporary geopolitical realities, backing demands from countries like India for a permanent seat.
Other candidates include Rebeca Grynspan, Rafael Grossi, and Macky Sall. The UN has never had a female Secretary-General in its 80-year history, while the Council remains divided on major conflicts like Ukraine and West Asia.
