Two Suspects Arrested in 102 Million Dollar Crown Jewel Heist from Louvre Museum

Paris authorities arrested two suspects in last week’s 102 million dollar theft of France’s crown jewels from the Louvre Museum, including one caught trying to leave the country at Charles de Gaulle Airport, local media reported.

The suspects, with prior burglary records, were among four thieves who entered the museum for just four minutes using a basket lift and smashed window to steal eight priceless items, including sapphire and emerald pieces linked to 19th-century French royalty.

One item, Empress Eugénie’s emerald-set crown, was later recovered, damaged but salvageable. The Louvre’s director called the incident a terrible failure, highlighting serious security lapses. French prosecutors will provide further details after the suspects’ 96-hour initial custody period.
