Thailand has declared Hantavirus a “dangerous communicable disease” amid growing global concern over its spread. The country’s National Communicable Disease Committee approved strict measures, including reporting suspected cases within three hours, disease investigations within 12 hours and a 42-day quarantine for high-risk contacts.
According to Thailand’s Health Ministry, enhanced surveillance, laboratory testing and treatment protocols are being implemented nationwide, with close monitoring at international entry points. Authorities have advised people with rodent exposure or travel history from high-risk areas to seek immediate medical attention if they develop symptoms such as high fever and breathing difficulty.
Hantavirus is primarily spread through contact with infected rodents, their urine, saliva or droppings, while human-to-human transmission remains rare.
