At Least 12 Killed in Sydney Terror Attack, World Reacts

In Australia, at least 12 people, including one shooter, have been killed in an attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach this evening, in what has been declared a terrorist incident. The second shooter is in police custody and is in a critical condition. Twenty-nine people have been injured, including two police officers. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the incident both shocking and distressing. 
 
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said that he is appalled by the shooting attack, and called the incident the result of an anti-semitic rampage in the streets of Australia over the past two years.
 
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the terrorist attack and confirmed increased vigilance around Jewish sites across the country. The Metropolitan police urged the public in Britain to continue to remain vigilant at events and in public places. 
 
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said the shooting left him “speechless” and called on global leaders to halt the expansion of antisemitic violence. In a social media post, Merz said the attack was against our shared values.
 
France President Emmanuel Macron condemned the terrorist attack. In a social media post, President Macron said France extends its thoughts to the victims, the injured and their loved ones. 
 
Calling the attack deeply distressing, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer paid tribute to the victims and their families.
 
Condemning the terrorist attack, Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni urged maintaining a firm resolve to end every form of violence and antisemitism.
 
While Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, said the EU is united against violence, hatred and antisemitism.
