Telangana High Court stays 42% BC reservation in local body elections

The Telangana High Court today stayed the state government’s order granting 42 percent reservation for Backward Classes in the upcoming local body elections. The court has given the Telangana government four weeks to file its response. The High Court passed interim orders suspending the enhanced quota until further notice.
A Bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin heard the arguments in the pleas challenging 42 per cent reservations for Backward Classes in local bodies. The bench directed the government to file the counter affidavit in the matter within four weeks. The Bench granted another two weeks of time to the petitioners to file their responses to the counter affidavit.
