Tathagata holy sacred relics of Lord Buddha are set to travel to the Union Territory of Ladakh. This marks the first time these holy remains will leave its permanent place for an exhibition within the country. The announcement was made during a press conference in New Delhi attended by the Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinay Kumar Saxena.
The exhibition is scheduled to last for 15 days, starting on the first of next month. The relics will be transported through a special aircraft with Z-category security to ensure their safety.
Addressing the press conference, Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that this exposition will not just serve as a display but as a celebration of the country’s soul and civilisation. He said that the event is expected to draw a massive crowd, including heads of state, monks and devotees from across the globe.
He noted that similar international expositions of the sacred relics have drawn large participation across countries, strengthening India’s cultural and civilisational connection globally. Mr Shekhawat emphasised that the teachings of Lord Buddha on non-violence, compassion and inner awakening hold deep relevance in today’s global context marked by uncertainty and conflict.
The Ministry informed that the venues include the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, Dharma Centre of Leh Palace, and CIBS. It added that the exposition will also extend to Zanskar from 11th to 12th of the next month, followed by a closing ceremony in Leh on 14th of the next month and departure of the sacred relics on 15th of the next month.
